More than a half-million people tuned in to Sunday night’s OG phenomena, aka, Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle’s Verzuz. This was more of a Family Reunion, more specifically, everybody’s two favorite aunties chatting it up over Sunday dinner.
If you viewed via Instagram, nothing but blue checks could be seen for miles with comments from all corners of the Entertainment industry. Everybody was tuned in. Once the music finally started, both Gladys and Patti put on quite a show. There was no shortage of shoulder shaking, high pitched shrills, Alto excellence, and witty one-liners to keep us thoroughly engaged.
Bounce Gvng Twitter was alive and well.
Hit after hit. Live performance after live performance. The vocal ability of these OG’s, says Auntie Patti, was astounding. Most of us can only hope to speak as loud as they can still sing at 76 and 79 respectively. “When you’ve been blessed, Midnight Train to Georgia, Lady Marmalade, Neither one of us, and Superwoman” was just the icing on the cake. The night’s highlight was an unexpected appearance by Dionne Warwick; not sure how none of us saw that one coming.
On this night the gaps and bridges that divide the old and young, as it relates to music, may have been forever closed and burned. Tonight, these two women unified the masses through the one language that we all understand; Music.
