UGK predicted to battle 8Ball & MJG in Verzuz before the summer
Timbaland & Swizz Beatz have made history with their iconic “Verzuz” battles. With legendary producers like RZA & DJ Premier, Grammy Award-winning artists like Brandy and Monica, and top-charting songwriters like Ne-Yo & Johnta Austin. “Verzuz” has privileged us to some epic moments.
These celebrations, as Tim & Swizz like to call them, have also been more like history lessons; shedding light on different areas (Too $hort & E-40 from the West Coast, Fabolous & Jadakiss representing New York culture, and Jeezy & Gucci Mane putting on for Atlanta) and even different eras (from legends Gladys Knight & Patti Labelle to new school producers Hit-Boy & Boi-1da) that have contributed greatly to the music scene. Now, with the recently confirmed battle, two legendary rap groups will put on for the South and the underground.
Back in May, Bun B made it known that he wanted to compete in a VERZUZ battle with the perfect contender, Memphis duo 8ball & MJG.
During a recent appearance on The Donnie Houston Podcast, Bun B tells of a Verzuz battle between Texas rap group UGK and Memphis rappers 8Ball & MJG. Although the battle hasn’t finalized, Bun B says that the battle will take place sometime before the summer. According to him, the postponing of the Keyshia Cole & Ashanti “Verzuz” is backing everything up.
Bun B seems to be excited about the battle. He said “Verzuz is actually gon’ be fun cause we’ve known each other for years, we get along real well. It’s gon’ be interesting to get in there and play the music for the people.” This will be another one for the books for the hip-hop community. And the underground music scene specifically.
