5 Reasons to Get Hip to the Songwriting and Production Super Duo that Ariana Grande, DJ Khaled, and The Carters Can’t Get Enough of
1. Their first major label placement was with Rihanna.
In 2012, Denisia “Blu June” Andrews and Brittany “Chi” Coney helped pen “Loveeeeeee Song,” featuring Future, for Rihanna’s seventh studio album Unapologetic. Not bad for a big break.
2. Beyoncé loves them.
Did I mention Beyonce loves them? Oh, and JAY-Z too. They collaborated with The Carters on songs like “LoveHappy” and “Black Effect” on the Grammy award-winning album Everything is Love. They worked with them again on DJ Khaled’s single “Top Off,” and once more on the Disney-inspired release The Lion King: The Gift.
3. They produced Kehlani’s Billboard Hot 100 debut.
NOVA WAV produced “CRZY”, the lead single (and a personal favorite) from Kehlani’s debut studio album Sweet Sexy Savage. It peaked at no. 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked Kehlani’s first-ever entry on the chart.
4. They have a sound pack with Splice.
According to Splice, their “pack is dripping with their signature sound and packed with one-shots and loops ready to be woven into your next head-bopper.” As someone who’s used it myself, I’m inclined to agree.
5. They’re likely to be nominated for an Oscar.
It’s award season once again and the Grammy award-winning pair could get their hands on a different kind of trophy.
Their critically acclaimed song “See What You’ve Done“, written in collaboration with Mary J. Blige and Camper for the Belly of the Beast documentary, is a possible Oscar contender.
Give them their flowers!
It’s been incredible to witness the rising star power of NOVA WAV since they first hit the scene in 2012. Each year proves to be more successful than the last. And with a Jazmine Sullivan collaboration and executive production credits already under their belt, I’m sure 2021 will be no different. Continue to follow Blu and Chi’s journey on Twitter and Instagram and be sure to show them some love!
