If you ask me today, “Do you want more followers or newsletter subscribers,” the answer would be very easy. Newsletter subscribers are king. If you don’t believe me, check out my top three reasons why emails matter for fans below.
1. Email Has A Big Reach
There are 3.9 billion daily email users. Every social media platform requires an email address to sign up. We also know that many social media platforms will email you in regards to activity on the platform. Email rules the internet and anybody online has an email address. This is your widest channel for connecting to fans.

2. Cost Effective Communication
According to Hubspot, 73% of millennials prefer communications from businesses to come via email. We know, Facebook will limit the reach of your posts in order to drive brands to use paid advertising. With sites like Mailchimp and Hubspot, you can email a good amount of fans for $0. Fans have also stated they want to hear from you by signing up for your email list. Now think about social media ads – Did you ask to see those?

3. Emails = Conversions
The goal as an artist or producer is to turn fans into customers. Email generates $38 for every $1 spent. When it comes to conversions there is no better channel than email. The answer to the old question, “How do I make money with my music?” Is simple. Increase your email list. As an artist or producer focused on driving conversions, as every artist and producer should, email campaigns trump all other channels for business.

Why do emails matter for fans? They are a proven way to have a long term relationship with them. Like I stated before, we know they want you to communicate via email. If you didn’t purchase or steal their email, they want to hear from you. Cultivate a relationship with your fans, turn them into customers, and get closer to your dream as a full-time creative.
