Jay-Z, formally Shawn Carter, turns 51 years old today. We write this to show our appreciation for the hip-hop legend.
Jay-Z needs no introduction at this point. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1969, he came onto the scene in 1996 with his debut album “Reasonable Doubt”.
For the 24 years since he has maintained his legendary status within not only hip-hop but modern music as a whole. For many, he continues to be an inspiration, representing the possibilities of both musical and entrepreneurial success.
You don’t have to look very far to find just one of Jay-Z’s many, many classics throughout the years. From “Dead Presidents” to “Empire State Of Mind”, to “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” all the way to “The Story Of O.J.“
Not to mention, his stats are off the charts. 22 Grammy awards, 7 BET and VMA awards, over 100 Million records sold, and to top it off he is the first rapper to have been inducted into the songwriters hall of fame.
Like we said, legendary.
On the flip side, Jay-Z’s imprint as a businessman and entrepreneur is equally as incredible. Having founded Roc Nation in 2008 he has never stopped growing his business and venturing into other territories. He has since merged Roc Nations’ position in music with the sports world with “Roc Nation Sports”. And he was also an initial co-owner of the music streaming platform “Tidal”
As he himself so accurately put it: “I’m not a businessman. I’m a business, man.”
Jay-Z has had an incredible career. And It’s hard to choose one favorite song out of his entire discography. But we’re grateful to have that problem.
