‘Insecure’ Is Ending After Season 5

People say that “all good things come to an end.” With the upcoming season of “Insecure” being the last, that statement rings true.

Issa, the face and co-creator of the show, states “We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience.”

“Insecure” has received widespread critical acclaim across its four seasons, with the series averaging a 95% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It has also gained a host of award wins and nominations during its run.

Those nods include an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations for Issa in the lead actress in a comedy category.

The Show’s Impact On The Music Scene

Even the music of the show has gained notoriety. The series has a popular Spotify playlist that contains each season’s soundtrack; the playlist is currently at 373 songs.

The music on “Insecure” features a wide range of styles, from acclaimed rappers like Kendrick Lamar, and Tyler, The Creator, praised R&B artists such as Miguel & Jazmine Sullivan, and up-and-coming artists.

“Insecure’s” music supervisor, Kier Lehman, talks about how he finds “fresh” new music for the show.

A Dream Team

Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore are the original creators of the show.

Issa also executive produces the series. Other producers include Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Amy Aniobi, and Jim Kleverweis.

The show is partially based on Rae’s web series “Awkward Black Girl.”

Issa showed her gratitude for HBO stating “Prentice and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end.”

In addition to Issa, the ensemble cast also includes Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales, and Alexander Hodge.

HBO Max confirmed in a new video that Insecure’s new season would be arriving later in 2021.

I’m sure we won’t see the last of Issa Rae.

Nevertheless, “Insecure” will be greatly missed.
