History remembers him effortlessly navigating his MPC 3000, but that was just one facet of his abilities. Dilla expressed true creative freedom and courage. He was as fearless of a rapper as he was a producer, never afraid to move outside of people’s expectations. In honor of his birthday here are 10 songs of his we’re listening to today.
1. De La Soul – Stakes is High
2. The Pharcyde – Runnin’
3. Erykah Badu – Didn’t Cha Know
4. Q- Tip – Breathe and Stop
5. Common – The Light
6. Slum Village – Fall In Love
7. Keith Murray feat. 50 Grand – Dangerous Ground
8. Jaylib – Champion Sound
9. J Dilla – Reckless Driving
10. J Dilla – Last Donut of the Night
Rest in peace to the late, great J Dilla.
