Slept On Sunday shines a light on the best of what’s slept on in music and culture.
BOOTS is a producer, singer, and songwriter originally from Florida who has had a very big rise from obscurity.
BOOTS first came onto the scene in 2013. After receiving an email from Beyoncé’s team, he attended a weeklong writing session for her 5th album, which at the time was still in the works. That week then turned into two weeks and after that, he signed to Roc Nation. With a deal solidified he played a big role in creating Beyoncé’s self-titled album Beyoncé. Landing a massive 9 placements out of the albums 14 songs. Most notably he helped write and produce Drunk In Love.
Other placements on the album include Superpower featuring Frank Ocean as well as Blue featuring none other than Blue Ivy Carter.
What a debut.
Since then BOOTS has kept rising and shows no signs of slowing down. Just a year later he teamed up with Run The Jewels for Lie Cheat Steal off their sophomore album Run The Jewels 2. As well as possibly the most haunting hook of the year in Early. Only to then be brought back for a few tracks on Run The Jewels 3 and RTJ 4.
As of this year, BOOTS has placements with FKA Twigs, Phantogram, and of course more Beyoncé placements. He has silently established himself as not only one of the most versatile writers/producers in the game but also one of the most talented.
If you don’t know who BOOTS is, a quick google search will show you just how deep his resume goes. It’s extremely impressive. You’ll likely have an “oh he produced that?” moment.
And the answer is yes. Yes, he did.
