Kazuhiro Shimada, Director & GM of Amazon Music Japan, was listed on Billboard’s 2022 International Power Players. This list honors music industry executives selected from all around the world striving for success in the music business.
Shimada joined Billboard to discuss various topics surrounding the Japanese streaming environment. We learned about the country’s digital growth and his takes on the importance of music rankings.
In regards to digitization in Japan’s music scene, Shimada states, “Digital services have grown remarkably over the past two years. But the penetration rate in the Japanese market is still about half that of Europe and the United States. So we believe there’s still room for growth and that the momentum of the past two years can be maintained. We’re now working on a growth strategy based on these indicators.”
